Outlander by Diana Gabaldon, Now a TV Series!

The time that I have been waiting for since I first read Outlander by Diana Gabaldon in 2004 has finally come upon me. After a decade long wait, the Outlander series has come to life on Starz.

Over the years there have been many “fake outs” coming and going including a supposed movie that was supposed to take place sometime circa 2011. Obviously, it didn’t, and I am actually grateful for that. Outlander is too complex and too amazing to structure into a a single movie, including a made for TV movie series.

Fortunately, STARZ has realized the potential (and the fanbase) that Outlander comes with and decided to take on producing the Outlander TV series.  Not just a movie. Not a made for TV movie series, but a indefinite season by season television series that can be enjoyed by a new set of fans for years to come.

At least, that is what I am hoping.

What Attracts Me to Outlander?

There are so many reasons that I love the Outlander book series, but most definitely, my number one reason has to be the passionate and unstoppable love between 1940′s Claire Beauchamp Randall and 1700′s Scotsman, James Fraser. It is a love that knows no limits — whether time or distance. It’s a true romantic passionate love between two people who mutually love and respect each other, including all their undeniable self-faults.

Gabaldon has done amazing job of telling a tale that many other authors have tried and failed to do. She has managed to take a historical fiction, mix it with science fiction (neither genre that I normally read) and turn it into a page turner that I cannot, for the life of me, put down. Even when I am too busy to read, the story of Claire and Jamie is never far from my mind.

What Attracts YOU to the Outlander Series by Diana Gabaldon?

I love talking about Outlander and will happily sit with any willing ear and take turns gushing about how steamy and amazing Jamie is, and how lucky Claire is to have such a devoted, brave, and romantic husband (who usually says all the right things.) And this, of course.

Have you read Outlander and if you have not, do you plan on reading the first book before the shows debut on August 9th, 2014?
